Criterion text
Plasticizers (phthalates) on the Candidate List must not be added to the plastic or rubber material of the appliance, including the external power cable, at concentrations higher than 0.1% by weight.
Exceptions
- Printed circuit board, PCB
- Plastic and rubber parts weighing less than 25 g and included in electronics parts
Verification
The supplier shall, upon request, be able to present any of for example the following:
- Technical documentation, for example declarations from the machine manufacturer, certificate from the cable manufacturer or test results. The test results must be within the permitted limits, ie a maximum of 0.1% by weight.
Proposed follow-up
Request technical documentation, such as a cable manufacturer's certificate, material declaration, or test result according to IEC 62321–8: 2017 or equivalent. The results shall be within the permitted limits.
If the requirement is verified with an eco-label, check that there is a valid license for the product in question. This can be controlled on Nordic Ecolabelling (the Swan).
Information about the criterion
The requirement can limit the supply of available cables as well as other plastic and rubber parts, which reflects the advanced level of the requirement.
The Candidate List currently (March 2020) contains 14 phthalates.
