Criterion text
In the final rinse cycle, hood/undercounter/combination or rack type dishwashers shall consume no more water per dish rack than is shown in the table below:
Type of machine | Amount of water used in final rinse per dish rack |
Hood type dishwasher, undercounter dishwasher | 3 litres per dish rack |
Hood type dishwasher that can be used as a heavy-duty dshwasher | 3 litres per dish rack |
Rack type dishwasher | 1.5 litres per dish rack |
Verification
The supplier shall, upon request, be able to present any of for example the following:
- Product information sheet that states the amount of water used during final rinse per dish rack. The supplier's calculation of the amount of rinse water used per dish rack shall be attached.
Proposed follow-up
Follow up the information specifying the amount of rinse water used per dish rack and ensure that relevant limit in the requirement is met. One way to do this is to examine the product information sheet to deduce the amount of rinse water used per rack in comparison with the supplier's own calculation.
Information about the criterion
Pot and pan dishwashers and appliances that are primarily intended for heavy-duty dishwashing are not covered by this requirement. There are no standardised dish racks for such appliances, unlike other dishwashers, which makes it more difficult to find a comparable method of measuring water consumption for the final rinse.
Hood type dishwashers that can be used as heavy-duty dishwashers are appliances that are primarily intended for delicate dishwashing but that can also be used for heavy-duty work.
The dishwashing time for rack type dishwashers is usually regulated by the speed that racks are fed through the machine. The speed also affects the length of the rinse cycle and its water consumption. It is important that the correct feed rate is set to ensure that the dishes are properly cleaned. By avoiding gaps between the racks that are fed through the machine, the amount of water used in the final rinse can be optimised further.
