Motive
The Candidate List, (article 59 in Declaration (EG) no. 1907/2006, concerning the registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals, (Reach)), is a register of Substances of very high concern (SVHC). These are substances with potential serious and lasting impact on human health and the environment. It can be substances that are carcinogenic, mutagenic, and reprotoxic (CMR), as well as Persistent, Bioaccumulative, and Toxic (PBT/vPvB).
This advanced criterion includes all substances on The Candidate list. Since the aim is to limit substances that are harmful to the environment as well as to human health, this criterion includes all components, not just those with bodily contact.
The Candidate List is updated regularly, around twice yearly. The current list is to be found at the European Chemicals Agency website.
