Criterion text
The equipment must have a function that automatically turn on standby mode or shut down after a period of inactivity, or according to a predetermined schedule.
Verification
Provide documentation, for example a copy of the manual, demonstrating how to activate standby or off mode automatically.
Proposed follow-up
Perform a feature check of the equipment.
Information about the criterion
Depending on the operation, the requirement can be less relevant, e.g. for emergency operations. Depending on the type of equipment, the period before standby or shut down mode is activated may vary.
If a maximum start-up time after sleep mode is of crucial importance for the use of the equipment, the time for (automated) startup should be specified. The modes are defined as follows, according to EN 50564:2011 and EC 1275/2008:
Standby mode: a condition where the equipment is connected to the mains power source, depends on energy input from the mains power source to work as intended and provides only the following functions, which may persist for an indefinite time: reactivation function, or reactivation function and only an indication of enabled reactivation function, and/or information or status display;
Off mode: a condition in which the equipment is connected to the mains power source and is not providing any function; the following shall also be considered as off mode:
(a) conditions providing only an indication of off-mode condition;
(b) conditions providing only functionalities intended to ensure electromagnetic compatibility pursuant to Directive 2004/108/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council.
